Psalm 27:1 “The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?

Have you ever toured a lighthouse? I once walked up to the top of a spiral staircase and ventured onto the landing of a lighthouse on the Oregon coast. The solid rock foundation and massive lens demonstrated how important that beacon would have been to the ships along the coastline.
I have also been along the coast when a huge storm was breaking and the crashing waves and howling wind would seem daunting to a keeper on that spire.
The Psalm of David was a reminder of where true hope resides.
The Light
In the midst of a dark, dark, world shines a light that cannot be quenched. Many have tried to dim the light of Jesus and all have failed. For those who know Him, they know the light is more than a hope, but provides guidance, and direction each step of the way. Listen to David as he describes those who choose to walk their own path, illumined by their own sense of knowledge…
Psalm 27:2. “When evildoers assail me
to eat up my flesh,
my adversaries and foes,
it is they who stumble and fall.”

The wicked hate the way of the righteous and because they lack understanding, they stumble for lack of light….godly light.
Jesus illuminates the path of the righteous, as a lamp unto their feet and a light unto their path, the living Word guides and directs His people.
The Salvation
Salvation defined in its most simple terms is described as preservation or deliverance from harm, ruin, or loss.
Psalm 27:3 “Though an army encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
though war arise against me,
yet I will be confident.”
David knew that no matter what came up against him, his confidence was not in his own ability to wage the battle, but was found in his God. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had proven His faithfulness for thousands of generations, and He is proven faithful still.
What harm can come to the righteous? Could famine, pestilence, or sword lead to their demise? Well, if their hope was only in this world, then fear would be justifiable. But the hope of the righteous is not short sighted, it extends out to the eons of time they will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Psalm 27:4 “one thing have I asked of the LORD,
that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
and to inquire n his temple.”
What is it that guides your life? What have you placed your hope in?
The path of the righteous is clear, they may not see real far down the road but what they do see has been illumined by the Lord of all light…and He leads them toward His salvation.
That is all the righteous need to know.
