Galatians 1:15-16 “But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by His grace, was pleased to reveal His Son in me so that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not rush to consult with flesh and blood”
To Reveal when used properly is to uncover, lay open what has been veiled or covered up; to disclose, make bare.
Have you ever posed the question, “What if everything we do and think was made public?” The very thought of it would be shameful for most people. The idea that everything about us would be like an open book before the world would probably change people’s perceptions about us. We wouldn’t be able to hide behind the charade of what we present, people would know the real you.
Frankly, I think we would all be shocked at what we see and hear. People would think twice about what they harbor in their hearts and their actions would seem hypocritical if they can’t align their conduct with their true intentions.
God is in the business of revelation. Since nothing before Him is hidden, our lives are laid bare before Him. There are aspects of our lives in Him in which the revelation of Christ is made possible to this world. Matter of fact, this is one of those occurrences where God is pleased with this manifestation in us. Why? Because He does it!
Initially, we see God revealing His Son in us upon Salvation. The question is, is He revealing this to us as a confirmation of His ownership or is He revealing His Son in us to the world? I believe it is both. Paul was reflecting on the idea of God revealing his Son, so he could preach to the Gentiles.
When the Son of God has been unveiled in us to the world, what the world sees is the power of God, not us. We are fallible, Jesus is perfect. We are weak, Jesus is strong. We muddle up the idea of Holiness, Jesus perfects it through us.
1 Peter 1:3-5 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”
Not only does God reveal His glory through us in our testimony but He will reveal His glory when we are presented before Him in Heaven. I’ve always loved to encourage others who are considering faith in Christ, that not only is walking with Jesus good now, there is goodness to come… this is a win-win situation!
Philippians 3:13-15 “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you.”
As we walk in the company of Jesus, God helps us along the way. Jesus’ promise before He departed was to never leave us or forsake us. This promise has never been made more evident than when you set your mind on Him. What is it that Paul was concerned you might not understand?
“not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith”
This knowledge is reflected in the hearts of the mature believer. Righteousness is to walk in accordance with God’s divine or Moral law. Those that understand this process of walking in His presence and pleasing Him will understand that it is not by works that this is accomplished….It is by obedience.
Ephesians 3:2-5 “if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you, how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets:”
The knowledge of how Jesus fulfilled the requirements of the law was evident to many who had followed Jesus. What was a mystery was how the preordained Prince would prophetically fulfill the representation of His namesake. For those who are utterly confused, the Son of God was destined to redeem His church from the onset of Creation. All of Creation led up to that moment in time when Jesus would be revealed for the sins of mankind, and subsequently all of Creation eagerly awaits His return once more. Romans 8:22 “For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.”
Those who have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb eagerly anticipate the moment of deliverance from this world of sin…I know I sure do. It seems at times the Lord can’t come soon enough. Other times, when I’m given the opportunity to share the gospel with an unbeliever, I’m reminded why the Lord tarries…His Mercies are new every morning, Great is His faithfulness.
For those who simply refuse to accept His redeeming sacrifice–
2 Thessalonians 2:5-8 “Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.”
The Lord is currently holding back the full magnitude of evil on this earth. If you think it’s bad now, imagine if God fully releases evil to work it’s corruption upon this earth? The Great Tribulation is about as close to this experience as people will come to know. The result of having unshackled evil is about 2/3 of earth inhabitants will perish. If the Lord doesn’t return after a mere 7 years of evil, the whole of earth would perish. At the end of this 7 year nightmare, the glorious return of Christ will then usher in a 1000 year millennial reign upon the earth while Satan is kept in a bottomless pit….a pit of no rest. Isn’t it ironic, the 7000th year on earth is a symbolic year of rest with Christ at it’s helm while Satan experiences just the opposite.
At the end of 1000 years, Satan will be released a final time and will deceive the remaining people on earth, the battle of Armageddon will occur and finally evil will be completely vanquished. The Great White throne judgement will occur and each will be judged according to their works. Death and Hades will be brought forth, only to complete the final judgement and will then be thrown into the Lake of Fire.
For believers, our lives will be brought before the fire of Christ’s righteousness and He will purify all of our works.
1 Corinthians 3:12-15 “Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire”.
The revealing of Truth is a responsibility of believers the world over. We have been entrusted with this responsibility to shine the light of God unto the darkness that the blind might see. Discipleship, evangelism, preaching, teaching, even apologetics can influence someone beyond a topic that has withheld them from approaching Christ’s throne.
As a people of God who have been born of the Spirit, we have been given gifts that are meant to be exercised in the world we have influence in.
What are your gifts? How is God revealing them through you? If these are questions you can’t answer, pray, and the Lord our provider will show you His purposes for you.
Revelation 1:7 “Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him–even those who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. So shall it be! Amen.”
One day soon…the Lord will bring the final revelation of Himself to the world. There will be no doubt as to who is King. We are trying to spare the lost from suffering the shame of forsaking the gift of God.
Do what it takes to present the gospel faithfully. As Paul once said, understand who your audience is and work within the confines of how they will listen. You never know…you may help in bringing another lost sheep into the Shepherds care.
