Highway of Holiness

Isaiah 35:8
“A highway shall be there, and a road, And it shall be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, But it shall be for others. Whoever walks the road, although a fool, Shall not go astray.”

Are you walking along the Highway of Holiness? Only those who trust in the Lord will walk this path. David desired it: Psalm 5:8 "Lead me, O LORD, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; Make Your way straight before my face." Jesus mentioned this path also: Matthew 7:14 "Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." Solomon recognized the wisdom of this journey: Proverbs 11:5 "The righteousness of the blameless will direct his way aright, But the wicked will fall by his own wickedness." And Peter knew how important this path is as well:

2 Peter 2:15 “They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;”

So....what are the characteristics of this Highway that make it so vital?

1. Only the righteous may tread on it. The righteous are those who are made perfect by the blood of the lamb. The Old Testament patriarchs were looking for a coming Messiah, we look back at His redeeming power made manifest to us.

2. It is for all who desire where it leads. Young/old, rich/poor, wise/fool....practicing holiness exceeds these conditions. Yes, there are Christian fools. Those who never progress past the infancy of new life. What inhibits them? The lack of obedience to God’s leading stunts growth in knowledge.

3. It's way is true. It does not deviate from its true course. Truth is straight and narrow. The journey may be difficult and perilous at times, but the Lord does not forsake His anointed, they are kept by the power of God.

4. It ends in Zion. You will not be disappointed but will come with singing, rejoicing in the joy of the Lord. Zion represents God’s presence, dwelling in the midst of His glory. There is a lot of talk about what heaven may be like, but the real joy will be the Lord. We get a taste of it now....wait until we see and know the fullness of His power...it will be a game changer.

5. The results are eternal. All despair, all grief, all sadness will simply flee away. It is eternal joy and gladness. Thinking eternally minded is difficult in this life. We face so many distractions, temptations and grief. We must not lose sight of the finish line, we must encourage each other daily with this remembrance.

This is the result of those who hope in the Lord.; Who obey His statutes; Who allow the the perfect law of liberty to be the pillars by which they live their lives.
Do you want to go there? Zion waits for you…the King of glory promises to never leave you nor forsake you as you trod this path.
Will you trust Him for the journey?
